Editorial Notes

As the days become increasingly long there is beauty all around us, from budding trees and blossoming flowers to the chirping of birds, all a gentle reminder that beauty is truly in the eyes of the beholder! Spring has finally sprung and along with it comes spring cleaning and a myriad of outdoor duties that require not only our attention but our hard earned dollars as well.

This issue of Edmonton Woman Magazine will focus on the spring season as we begin our garden design, plan our summer activities, hit the golf course and take in some of Edmonton’s entertainment and awesome outdoor festivals. We also offer summer beauty and fashion tips, and showcase a variety of “greener” and “healthier” food products.

A special salute goes out to the many women in our community who are making a difference in the lives of someone or something, no matter how big or small their contribution, and for those who have overcome a significant barrier in their life through perseverance and faith, as did Kelly Falardeau, featured in our Women Making a Difference column.

On the cover we feature Dale Sheard, Chair of the Lois Hole Hospital for Women Campaign, who through her dedication and perseverance was instrumental in taking the fundraising campaign to another dimension in the four short years since its inception.

In an interview with Edmonton Woman Magazine, Sheard, a very modest yet determined person, shares the story of her journey, recalling that very emotional moment Lois Hole, the late Governor General of Alberta , gave her blessing to the naming of the hospital after herself.

Sheard speaks little about her own achievements but attributes the success of the campaign to the many volunteers who put in the hard work and to the generous support of the community at large. Thanks Dale for your contribution in making the opening of the Lois Hole Hospital for Women possible!
