Editorial Notes

Happy New Year! As we enter the beginning of another new year, Edmonton Woman Magazine would like to encourage all of you our readers, young and old, to pursue your dreams, believe in yourself, never give up and be the best you can possibly be this year.

One who has done just that is our cover subject, Jessica Gregg, a 21-year-old speed skater representing Canada at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. In an interview with Jeannie Chua, the young Olympian reveals the extent of the perseverance and dedication it took to get her to the realization of her longtime dream, and also the importance she places on her family and their role in her successes.

Are you contemplating a new career or possibly a career change this year? There are still fewer women today than men holding positions of authority in the science field. Judy Mott explains how the University of Alberta is trying to change that with their Women in Scholarship, Engineering, Science and Technology program. WISEST is designed to promote the participation of women in non-traditional careers related to science and technology. You will find this information helpful to get you started.

Also featured in this issue is our news digest, which covers newsworthy events and items of interest to our readers.

Since the beginning of the year is generally the time we set up our fitness and weight resolutions, Anne Stropel provides insight into the very serious world of eating disorders. She lists the various types, the signs and symptoms and possible treatment options available for anyone you know who may require help.

For those of you planning a getaway to a warmer climate this season, we’ve listed a few tips to have you feeling good and looking beautiful and sexy while on the street or on the beach!

Now go and be the best you can be this year!
